Lumberjacks & NJCAA Nat'l Tournament (2-26-10)

We are now receiving between 60 and 100 hits per day inquiring about Lumberjack hockey and the NJCAA National Tournament at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. Hudson Valley, incidentally, is about the size of UND or NDSU with 13000+ undergraduates. Their faculty at 630, rivals the number of undergraduate students we have total at Dakota College at Bottineau.

I just wanted you to know that we will be covering the tournament live as best we can. We are working with Hudson Valley Community College to provide the best experience for our fans that is possible. Click on the Jacks link at the right for the tournament pairings press release, and other info as it becomes available.

The Lumberjacks, seeded #1 in the tournament are scheduled to play the host team, Hudson Valley Community College, at 2:00 pm Centeral Standard Time, Sat. March 6th, 2010 in Troy, NY.

D.J. Tooke and Seth Serhienko received All-West Region honors at the West Region Hockey Tournament in Minot Saturday. David Hoff was named West Region Coach of the Year.

BISMARCK TOURNAMENT "3rd Place"
The Bottineau/Rugby 12u girls rallied coming from behind 0 - 2 earlier in the game. They came up with a tying goal in the 3rd period pushing the battle for 3rd place into Sudden Victory Over-Time. A skirmish in front of the net allowed Shanya Lowman to fire the puck in for what appeared to be the Victory. However, the ref called the goal off. The X-Treme team rallied & continued to pressure the Minot girls. Late in over-time Baily Neubauer released the puck into the net with 22 seconds remaining for the OT Victory, placing Bottineau X-Treme with the 3rd place in the over-all tournament. NOVICE
The Bottineau Novice headed up to Hartney on Saturday to take on Deloraine West on Saturday. Deloraine W is in second place on the west side of the league so it was a good test for our team since we are number two on the east side. We will be seeing them in two weeks at league playoffs where we will play for the A Banner. We ended out coming out on top with a 8-2 victory. Strong defense and four different players scoring was the key to this victory. We are playing our best "team" hockey of the year right now and feel we have a great chance to hang the A banner in our rink. We have a double header weekend coming up this weekend including our last home game on Saturday. The Novice will then will wrap up the season the weekend of February 20th-21rst when we go to Deloraine for league playoffs.

BISMARCK TOURNAMENT 12u Girls X - Treme
The Bottineau/Rugby 12u team played Hazen/Beulah Friday night for their 1st game of the Bismarck tournament. The B/R girls controlled the game from the drop of the puck, scoring within 14 seconds of the 1st period. Baily Neubauer fired from the blue line hitting the back of the net. The goals are as follows: Baily Neubauer (1) Shelby Pedie (1) Katie Kerslake (1) Karlee McCloud (1). Goalie: Jacie Ceglowski had a "Shut Out" with 15 game saves. Assists will be posted upon receipt.

NOVICE Road Tripped to Brandon & Souris Jan 23, 2010

The Novice team attended the Wheat Kings Friday night and then spent the night in Brandon. The kids got to do a little swimming Saturday morning and then we headed south to Souris for a early afternoon game. The kids had a blast at the Wheat King game and some of the newer parents got a eye opener when the gloves were dropped. It was a great bonding experience for the team and parents. They are a great bunch! We ended up losing the game 6-7. We out shot them, out skated them and just plain out played them everywhere but on the scoreboard. Souris is undefeated in league play with us trailing them with 2 losses which are both to them . The way it looks we should end up playing for the A banner along with Souris, Melita, and Deloraine West. We have a real shot at hanging the banner in our rink. What a season this has been! Old Timers Recreational Hockey (11-16-09)

Old Man Recreation Hockey is composed of men 35 & over and those that have never played competitive hockey. Ice time for the Old Timers is every Sunday at 8:45 - 10:00 pm. Brian has forms in the office for those wishing to participate. Contact Todd Handeland for more information.

Lumberjacks to Play UMN Crookston Club Hockey (11-13-09)

Game time Fri: 7:30 at the Lumberdome; Sun: 1:00 pm

It will be interesting to see the kind of hockey team from Crookston that shows up at the Bottineau Community Arena tonight. UMN-Crookston officially dropped their DII hockey program last March due to "financial constraints."

"The UMC Golden Eagles hockey team played in the MCHA hockey-only conference through the 2008-2009 season. The University discontinued the varsity hockey program following the 2008-2009 season. UMC will honor the finanical commitment to the new $14.5 M ice arena being built in Crookston, MN. They signed a five-year lease that starts in 2010. The campus currently fields a club hockey team." Former Lumberjacks coach Gary Warren had coached the Eagles since 2001. He has been retained by UMN-Crookston in the capacity of Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations. The UMN-Crookston Club Hockey team is coached by Brett Saari. The Golden Eagles were in Minot last weekend and lost to the Beavers 8-1 and 8-3.

Lumberjacks Overwhelm Billings Bulls

The Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks got their season on the fast track to victory Wednesday, Nov. 11 when they defeated the Billings Bulls 8-0 in an exhibition game at Sidney, MT. It was the Lumberjacks first game of the season.

All hockey players Initiation through Bantam are required to be members of USA Hockey. This year the Bottineau Blue Line Hockey Club is encouraging online registration for USA Hockey and State Affiliation. (It cuts down a lot on necessary paperwork.)
